Limpeza dos Mares project brings environmental education to schools this month
This month, the Limpeza dos Mares (Ocean Cleanup) project begins a series of talks at municipal, state, public and private schools. Throughout the month, the project brings students an educational, interactive and fun experience that connects children with a reality often kept out of society's sight: the waste that reaches rivers, beaches and oceans.
Through playful activities, conversations and the display of materials collected during the project's actions, students get a close look at the different types of litter found in marine environments, including the litter no one sees, but which leaves deep consequences for ecosystems.
More than talking about preservation, the goal is to spark curiosity, responsibility and the awareness that our daily choices are directly linked to the future of the seas.
"We believe environmental education turns knowledge into action. And that every child made aware can become a new guardian of nature, multiplying this learning at home, at school and in the community," says Michele Ferrari, ACATMAR's Director of Tourism, Events and Sustainability and coordinator of the Limpeza dos Mares project.
About Limpeza dos Mares
Limpeza dos Mares is a social and environmental project dedicated to preserving aquatic environments, combining the removal of waste from rivers, beaches and the sea with strong education and awareness work. Beyond the cleanup drives, the project highlights the so-called "litter no one sees": submerged, hard-to-reach waste that builds up underwater and directly affects marine life.
The initiative reinforces one of the commitments of ACATMAR and its partners to the Sea Economy: caring for the environment that sustains nautical activity, fishing, tourism and the quality of life of coastal communities. Bringing this message to schools sows, in the new generations, respect and care for the seas.
