Oceano Escola brings Silverio Estaleiro's experience to the training of nautical professionals
The growth of Brazil's boatbuilding industry comes with an increasingly important challenge: training professionals prepared to work with the materials, processes and technologies currently used in boat construction.
It is in this scenario that Oceano Escola emerges, the technical training arm of Silverio Estaleiro, a company affiliated with ACATMAR, the Brazilian Nautical Association, based in Tijucas, Santa Catarina.
In continuous operation since 2018, Silverio Estaleiro builds one-off vessels using epoxy vacuum infusion, in addition to refit and naval design. It was precisely from the daily experience inside the shipyard that the perception of a demand now affecting different companies in the nautical chain arose: the need to expand the availability of skilled labor in composite materials.
Oceano Escola turns this shop-floor experience into professional training, using defined processes, execution checklists and inspection criteria applied by the shipyard itself.
Learning where production actually happens
One of the main differentials of the proposal is to make training happen within the production environment itself.
Participants work with the materials, equipment and molds used in the day-to-day of Silverio Estaleiro, bringing training and professional reality closer together.
The school's first open program is the Fundamentals of Vacuum Infusion course, with 11 intensive hours of training in a single Saturday and classes limited to 15 participants.
During the training, students go through the fundamentals of the process, recognition of materials, equipment and infusion planning. Then each participant builds their own part, carrying out steps such as cutting the fabrics, positioning the materials, closing the bag, leak testing, preparing the resin and controlling the flow.
The training also reaches demolding, visual inspection and evaluation of results, allowing participants to understand not only how to perform the technique, but also to identify the mistakes that can compromise a part.
Qualification for a growing industry
The initiative speaks directly to one of the agendas championed by ACATMAR: the need for professional qualification to keep pace with the development of the Blue Economy supply chain.
The growth of the nautical sector does not depend only on expanding production and infrastructure. It also depends on the existence of qualified professionals to serve a chain that involves industry, trade, services and tourism.
In this context, initiatives developed by affiliated companies, such as Silverio Estaleiro, help to bring together technical knowledge, the market and the generation of new professional opportunities.
Training for shipyards too
In addition to open classes, Oceano Escola offers in-company courses, with five-day programs that can be held at the contracting shipyard itself or at the facilities in Tijucas.
In this format, the content is structured based on the processes, parts and bottlenecks found within each company's operation, enabling direct application of the knowledge acquired.
Upcoming classes
The next Fundamentals of Vacuum Infusion class takes place on 29 August 2026, at the Silverio Estaleiro shed in Tijucas. Another edition is scheduled for 24 October 2026.
The training includes consumable materials, a technical handbook, an execution checklist, meals during the training and an Oceano Escola certificate.
